07/100 A Monday, week of CNY

woke up at 745am, as this is the swopped week. where 2 weeks of 9am-6pm, and 2 weeks of 10am-7pm.

snoozed twice, and dream was about missing a train. it was quite real, i remember consciously thinking that this is so strange, like i knew it was a dream. as i got off to feel the marble textures and carvings underneath my feet. today is a rest day for the 30mins sit-ups, so i did instead the yoga 15mins. before i knew it, it was time to scoot off. Had the haircut yesterday so it felt like a neat monday morning. Also as the feasi and timeline was done, i felt ready for work. It was off to a quick start, with a first round of drft w V,  he highlighted that for demolition, permit and submission process wld take about 4 weeks, so that went into the time as well. Then a quick racer discussion w J. where H pointed out quite a few mistakes that i felt embarrass to make. Like

1.habitable ht to be on the roof, and also the

2.FEA to be in front of the building, so that there can be the slab overhead internally.

3. Crossing of circulation. going out and down from ramp and drop off.

Then after lunch, a quick update. some frivolous thing, then rode home. i still enjoy v much this riding w the wind in your face. this is probably as close to flying that one can feel. with the wind in your face, and turning left and right. Home, ate the frozen carrotcake for dinner. n played the ukelele, this really puts me in a good and relax feel. going to google some stuff on archicad now, to prepare myself for the upcoming battle.

Feasi brain exercise like a soduku

 this one is factory

large " one room" spaces. understanding more about smoke purging and compartmentation now...

if there is anything that can be convincing about a layout, it is a requirement. if one wants to do good design, one needs to understand the requirement well to support ones' case. As when a client has to choose between aesthetics and money. the clear answer is money. unless statutorily required.

A current example is now, doing a layout of a giant factory space of about 25,800m2, 3 storeys, each story is  8600 sqm. the ideal is one big space, however, think of the urban and human emotion when one looks at this big black box. unreadable, lack of any warmth, however if we can break it up into smaller blocks this would give rise to many opportunities of roof terrace, interlocking shade and shadow... Spotted in the brief, is a requirement for Smoke control of natural means. However, in the 2018 scdf, 7,4  says engineered smoke control is needed when aggregate floor area >5000sqm. here if we keep it to one giant space, 8600 is obviously > 5000 sqm.. and if this NV requirement is necessary, it would make more sense to break the giant massing into min 2 parts.

*** sala! Instead of the regular chapter3 for compartment, compartment for warehouse has a separate table at 9.8A, and smoke requirements in 9.8B where allowable area is much larger!

eg storage warehouse w sprinkler & vehicular ramp is 9000m2, n w/o is 6000sqm

For previous moh feasi one, after i presented my option 2, from a money perspective, mine was more expensive as toilet stack is further away from the entrance, hence longer and more piping cost. and that was it. probably 3 hours worth of thinking and doing just put away in less than a minute of thought and comment.

the 3 sisters. compartment, if exemption is to be have, smoke and sprinkler have to be fulfilled more.

-note compartment can be exempted ( saving of roller shutter cost?) if:

1.sprinkler can be complied;

2.smoke (7.4) n specific use cases compartment(9.8.3)

Feasi Discussion

Thoughts after dicussion:

1. The deciding factor is not the bulk of it ( eg Facade)itself.

2. Placement of driveway wrt services that need access, for eg: ESS/CSR, note ht is 5.7m, cable chamber is 2m, then powergrid is 3.6m above.

3. Toilet location for sanitary stack, the closer it can be to the entrance the better, shorter pipework, save money

4. Detention Tank and location should be considered wrt lowest invert level of perimeter drain, so that it can be gravity feed. If not a pump will be needed, expensive n need maintenance.

5. Existing Hydrant location? if it is too far, pressure is not enough, a pump room may be needed

6. For steelwork expression, if smoothness is not required as per specifications, fire rated board not needed, can be vermiculite, and thus expressed.

7. For ESS, usually not steel as it needs 4hr fire rating, so RC is better.

8. As it is 3 storey, risers needed esp electrical, location usuallly at s/c or wc.

Qns ask by archi boss:

-Elevation needed surface area, after calculating unprotected opening , for costing purpose of fire-rating

-Facade wise, columns at the back

-Brief says need 9 months till completion, M&E says ESS can be done in 6 months, 1 month between plan and approval.

How is this one different: ( on hindsight what i should have highlighted for scheme 2)

-Facade expression, master & servant, healing garden for cp

-FEA is independent, as loading is 30 tonnes the material has to be specific, if it is in a garden location, the natural pathway theme could be compromised

-location of ESS can be nearer to the accessroad

New Team

started w doing construction drawings, for an existing project. a cafe layout, plans. adding gridlines. Actually it is not difficult, but not sure why i couldn't get it right.

*Post Exercise Cabinetry*

-Gridlines to be lighter, and always dimension

-Panel lines, no extra frame, note panel to be in front of structural frame

-no overlap lines

-drawer detail, back board with drawer container detached from it, and intermediate member between the front pulls. note overlap region necessary to prevent drawer from sliding backwards

*Post Exercise larger factory*

-Annotation, label ingress/egress, indicate building line above, mezzanine above, dimension of FEA

-possible for

1)CSR to be on top of transformer & Powergrid on top of CamberChamber, but total ht would be 5.7m

-for vehicles, that are 3.0x7.5m 90 degrees reverse parking,  would need 9.0m distance behind

-lorry min clear clear height 4.2m

-generic column size 800x800

-aircon ledge is $, always aim to have min 5% of min 150sqm

-GFA efficiency good value is 70-80% and Saleable efficiency is 120-140%

-"Ancillary office": is mezzanine floor and

-"Other Ancillary": M&E ( only rooms), lift lobby, staircase, FCC

-note mezzanine floor above 24m need to have driveway access but then efficiency will drop because of added liftlobby

New team feasi

Factory feasi

good to have:

-Ramp at 1:9

-calculate efficiency of building

-beyond 24m, cannot have mezzanine

E must have:

AC ledge to be 5% of area

E ideas:

-corridor linking to lobby, open to sky, possible to be gfa free

-"canteen" as a "fine dining space"

-sky terrace: difficulty in how to make it common

-setback from boundary line for putting sub structure and formwork; how to plaster and paint?

Comments upon looking at feasi

-FEA along external roads, have to be after drain and pavement

*note discussion w C&V, proximity of industrial stairs to be FEA does not need to  be 18m, vs residential stairs that needs to be. If sprinkled, 50% of building can have indirect discharge, but has to be 5m from building eaves.

1 month break

was just trying to find how long before this pause. has it been 12 years? fukushima is 10 years. i prepared some lunch boxes. teared a bit....
